Tell the Story - God's Perfect Timing

Recently, during a class at our church called Starting Point, something remarkable happened.

A woman attended who had never been to church before. She had watched online for a long time but had never walked through the doors. That night she came to the class, heard the message of the gospel, and gave her life to Christ. She was preparing to be baptized soon after.

Moments like that are powerful reminders of what faith is really about. At the center of Christianity is a simple but profound truth:

God loves you and wants a relationship with you.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done. God already knows your story—and He loves you anyway.

But while God desires a relationship with us, something stands in the way.

The Problem We All Share

The Bible explains that humanity’s problem isn’t a lack of effort, knowledge, or religion.

The problem is sin.

From the beginning, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered the world and created separation between humanity and God. That separation affects every person.

It doesn’t matter how moral someone tries to be. None of us can fix the problem on our own.

But God didn’t leave humanity without hope.

The Way God Made a Way

God provided a solution through Jesus.

Salvation isn’t something people achieve by:

  • Being religious
  • Joining a church
  • Taking communion
  • Getting baptized
  • Keeping rules
  •

Those things may be meaningful practices, but they are not what save a person.

The foundation of salvation is the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for humanity’s sins, and rose from the dead. When someone trusts in Him, the separation caused by sin is removed. The relationship with God is restored.

That moment is what many Christians describe as being born again.

What Happens After Faith Begins

When someone places their faith in Christ, it marks the beginning of a new story. There are many steps of growth ahead, but three simple starting points are especially important.

1. Follow Christ in Baptism

Baptism is an outward declaration of an inward change. It is a public way of saying, “My life has been changed by Jesus.”

It doesn’t save a person—but it shows others that salvation has already taken place.

2. Connect With a Healthy Church

Faith was never meant to be lived in isolation.

A healthy church community provides teaching, encouragement, accountability, and opportunities to grow. At its best, a church is a place where people learn Scripture and share the message of Christ with others.

3. Tell Your Story

One of the most powerful ways to share faith is simply to tell your story.

You don’t have to know every doctrine or have every answer to difficult questions. Even experienced pastors and theologians are still learning.

What matters is this:

If Jesus has changed your life, you can tell someone about it.

Your story might sound as simple as:

“I was lost, but now I’m found. My life changed when I trusted Christ.”

That testimony can be incredibly powerful.

The Story of Jesus Started Long Before Bethlehem

Many people think the story of Jesus begins with the Christmas story in Bethlehem. But the Bible shows that God’s plan started long before that.

In Genesis, Scripture hints at the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—working together in creation. Later, prophecies predicted that a Savior would be born of a virgin and would ultimately defeat evil.

Centuries before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah wrote:

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”

When Jesus was finally born in Bethlehem, it wasn’t random.

It was perfect timing.

The Bible says that Christ came “in the fullness of time.” Every event in history had been preparing the way.

God’s Timing in Personal Stories

The same God who orchestrated history is still at work today.

Throughout the New Testament, people encountered Jesus and experienced life-changing moments:

An Ethiopian traveler reading Scripture found understanding and faith.

Saul, a persecutor of Christians, encountered Christ and became the apostle Paul.

Ordinary people heard the gospel and were transformed.

Each story happened at exactly the right moment.

The same thing still happens today.

Sometimes people experience dramatic turning points. Sometimes it happens quietly over time. But the moment someone understands the story of Jesus and trusts Him, everything changes.

When God Reaches Into a Life

One way to picture salvation is like someone being pulled out of danger.

Imagine a child falling into rushing water. In a split second, someone grabs them and pulls them to safety.

That’s a small picture of what happens spiritually.

Through Christ, God rescues people from sin, death, and separation from Him.

And when that happens, a new story begins.

Your Story Isn’t Finished

God’s work in a person’s life doesn’t stop the moment they believe.

The Bible teaches that God continues shaping, guiding, and growing His people.

Even when life feels confusing or difficult, God is still at work.

Ecclesiastes reminds us:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

And the apostle Paul wrote:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”

That means the story God is writing in your life is still unfolding.

Trusting the Author of the Story

Because God sees the beginning and the end, Scripture encourages believers to trust Him even when they don’t understand everything.

Proverbs says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

God’s timing is often different from ours, but it is always purposeful.

Why Your Story Matters

One of the most compelling demonstrations of faith is a changed life.

A transformed life becomes a living testimony that the message of Jesus is real.

That’s why sharing your story matters.

Someone else may be struggling with the same questions, fears, or doubts you once had. Hearing how God worked in your life might be exactly what they need.

So if your life has been changed by Christ, don’t keep that story to yourself.

Tell it.

Because someone else may discover hope through it.
