Follow along with me and let's walk through this together.
In this series, If the Truth Be Told, we're diving deep into what God’s Word actually says. Not our opinions, not religious traditions, but the truth from Scripture.
We’ve already looked at two essential truths:
The Bible makes both of those facts crystal clear. And today, we’re going to explore another challenging but necessary truth: If the Truth Be Told... Heaven Is Not for Everyone
Wait—what?
Let’s pause here.
Heaven is available to everyone, but not everyone will choose to go. That’s the hard truth. God doesn’t reject people—people reject Him.
1 Timothy 2:4–6 says it plainly:
“[God] will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth... For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all…”
God desires for all people to know the truth—that Jesus is the only way. But not all will say yes.
And that should break our hearts.
What the Numbers Say
A recent CNN poll reported that:
81% believe in a literal heaven.
61% believe they will go there.
88% believe they’ll see loved ones there.
But 57% think they’ll get there by faith and good works.
Here’s the problem: Salvation isn’t Jesus + something. It’s Jesus + nothing.
Not Jesus + baptism.
Not Jesus + good deeds.
Not Jesus + church membership.
Just Jesus.
Let’s Look at What Jesus Said
Matthew 7:21–29 gives us a clear warning:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…” People will say, “Didn’t we preach in your name? Didn’t we cast out demons? Do good works?” And Jesus will say: “I never knew you. Depart from me.”
They had the right words—but the wrong meaning. They knew about Jesus, but didn’t know Him personally.
There’s a big difference between a head knowledge and a heart relationship.
Two Foundations, Two Outcomes
Jesus uses a simple yet powerful analogy:
One person builds their life on the rock—God’s truth.
Another builds on sand—their own beliefs, religion, or good deeds.
The storms of life come to both, but only the house on the rock stands.
Which foundation are you building your life on?
Two Gates, Two Roads
Matthew 7:13–14 describes two gates:
The wide gate—popular, easy, full of religion and good intentions, but it leads to destruction.
The narrow gate—a single way, through Jesus alone, and it leads to eternal life.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
There aren’t many paths to heaven. There’s just one. And His name is Jesus.
Two Kinds of Fruit, Two Courses of Life
Jesus continues in Matthew 7, explaining that you’ll know people by their fruit. That’s the course of their life—the evidence of a real relationship with Him.
A good tree (right relationship) bears good fruit.
A corrupt tree (religion without Jesus) bears bad fruit—even if it looks good on the outside.
Following Jesus doesn’t make you perfect, but it does change your heart and the direction of your life.
Two Eternal Destinations
If the truth be told—there are only two eternal outcomes:
Eternal life with God in heaven.
Eternal separation from God in judgment.
It all depends on the choice you make now.
So What Will You Choose?
If the truth be told, not everyone is going to heaven—but you can. Right now.
God’s Word says:
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
That gift is ready and waiting. But you must accept it.
It’s not about church attendance, how many diapers you changed in the nursery, or how many dollars you dropped in the offering plate.
It’s about saying, “Jesus, I trust You alone.”
Let’s Be Real… If the Truth Be Told
Some say the right words, but have the wrong meaning.
Some build on sand, and it will all fall apart.
Some walk through the wide gate, and it leads to destruction.
But…
Some choose the rock.
Some walk the narrow path.
Some surrender their lives to Jesus, and they are never the same.
Which one are you?
If you’re not sure you’ve made that decision to trust Jesus fully, don’t wait. Say yes to Him today.
Heaven is real. Hell is real.
And if the truth be told… your eternity is in your hands.
