Stop & Listen

Posted in: The Blog by admin on February 2, 2012

It is startling what we can learn from our kids if we just take the time to stop and listen.  I am amazed many times at what they hear and what they learn from different areas of their lives whether it is church or school related.  They are like little sponges that soak up everything.  (Even when you don’t think they are listening, typically they are.

I love walking through the house and hearing the kids sing, especially when they don’t know you are listening.  They are just pouring their hearts out to God in praise.  Just this week I heard my 8-year-old singing, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death….” and when he got to the chorus he just let it go: “OH NO YOU NEVER LET GO, THROUGH THE CALM AND THROUGH THE STORM ….. LORD YOU NEVER LET GO OF ME.”  I am so thankful that they learn these songs in our Kidz ministry at Marcus Pointe.  These songs instill truths about God in their hearts that they will never forget.  When they end up going through rough times in their lives, they will be able to go into the file cabinet in their minds and pull out songs of truth that penetrated their hearts through Kidz Praize or claim Bible passages that they learned in our KidStuf ministry.

Teenagers are definitely a different breed.  Pretty much they speak their minds without thinking, which gets my daughter in trouble many times.  J  This time it was different.  There was one instance last week when we were driving to school, and we were praying together.  I was pouring my heart out to God, and I told Him something that I was concerned and worried about.  I thought nothing of it other than I just gave that to God.  Molly prayed, and before I turned into the school I received a text from her, and she was sitting right beside me.  Gotta love that.  J  It said, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.  Philippians 4:6”  Wow!  A thirteen-year-old teenager gave me a truth from God’s Word that she had learned and that I knew but just needed to hear again.  I love it that she reads her Bible every day, and she is letting God’s Word transform her life.  Because of that she was able to give me the encouragement that I needed to hear at that very moment.

I know kids will be kids and will be loving, annoying, disrespectful, and a myriad of other things at times but there are times when you just need to stop and listen.  God could be getting ready to bless your heart in a special way!
